What Is Rising Damp?

Rising damp is the main cause of structural damage to homes and buildings and will compromise the structural integrity of the walls it grows on. The internally rising groundwater saturates walls and pollutants, such as saltpetre, which are contained in the water, can damage building materials. The longer you leave rising damp to develop the walls can begin to blister, mould and paint peeling.

How to identify rising damp problems

Rising damp can start off looking a lot like condensation but originates from a different cause. As the name suggests, rising damp starts from the floor and rises up, climbing in layers rising damp gives a tidal effect over your walls. It can cause more damage than condensation, so it’s important to be able to tell the difference between the two. rising damp will originate from water in/under the ground, so can usually be found rising from the floors or skirting boards when it appears.
